Passengers are also experiencing significant distress. On Saturday morning, passengers were seen at Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai airports, with several passengers arguing with airport staff. Today marks the fifth consecutive day of flight cancellations. According to a report, the number of canceled flights has exceeded 2,000, with more than 500 flights being canceled daily. According to IndiGo, it will take until December 15th for flight operations to return to normal.

Action on negligence after investigation

Amidst the continuous flight cancellations, Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the new FDTL norms came into effect on November 1st, but no other airlines have faced any problems. This clearly indicates that IndiGo is at fault. The airline’s negligence will be investigated and action will be determined.

New rules led to staff shortages

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has temporarily granted relief to airlines, especially IndiGo, until February 10, 2026. It has withdrawn its decision to not grant any leave in lieu of only seven weekly rest days. The DGCA had amended the work regulations for pilots and other crew members from November 1st. This is called Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL). These were implemented in two phases. The first phase came into effect on July 1st.
