CAT 2025 Dress Code: What to Wear to the Exam?

There’s no specific uniform required for the CAT exam, but there are some dress code guidelines:

  • Wear light and simple clothing—ones that don’t have large buttons, zippers, multiple pockets, or metal parts.
  • Avoid heavy or layered clothing, as checking may be time-consuming.
  • Close-to-the-shoes are not permitted.
  • Candidates are advised to wear only open-toed sandals or slippers.
  • Avoid items like mufflers, hats, and heavy jackets.

What should you absolutely not bring to the CAT exam? (Banned Items)

To prevent the use of unfair means, certain items are strictly prohibited at the exam center. Carrying these items may result in a denial of entry—no matter how much you request.

1. Electronic Devices

Mobile phones, smartwatches, fitness bands

Earphones, Bluetooth devices

Calculators (an on-screen calculator will be available during the exam)

2. Jewelry of any kind

Rings, earrings, bracelets, chains, nose pins

Any metal objects are strictly prohibited.

3. Stationery items

Pens, pencils, paper, geometry boxes

(Rough pads and pens will be provided at the exam center.)

4. Bags and Purses

Purses, wallets, handbags, backpacks, etc.

5. Other prohibited items

Hats, goggles, mufflers, or heavy clothing

If candidates are diabetic, they may only bring fruit or a water bottle as directed by their doctor, but prior notice is required.

CAT 2025 Exam Guidelines: Important Rules for Entry

Not only the dress code, but other rules are also mandatory at the exam center:

1. Identification Card Mandatory

  • Printed copy of CAT Admit Card
  • A valid photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport)

2. Biometric Verification

Candidates will undergo fingerprint and photo verification before entering the exam hall. Entry will not be granted without these.

3. Rough Pad and Stationery

Rough work sheets will be provided by the exam center.

They must be returned after the exam is over.
