We are talking about saffron cultivation, which is currently in high demand. It can generate significant income even in a small area. Saffron is also known as red gold due to its high price. It is in demand throughout the country, so farmers earn a good income by selling it.
Currently, the price of one kilogram of saffron in India has reached approximately 250,000 to 300,000 rupees. The seeds (corms) used for cultivation cost around 550 rupees per 10 valves.
What kind of climate is required?
Saffron cultivation is best in areas 1500 to 2500 meters above sea level. This crop prefers mild sunlight and warm weather. Saffron does not grow well in very cold or wet areas, so dry and warm climates are considered optimal.

Which Soil Produces Best?
Sandy, loamy, sandy, or clayey soils are suitable for growing saffron. Be careful not to let water stagnate in the field, as waterlogging can rot the corms and ruin the entire crop. Therefore, choose land that drains easily.
Preparing to Begin Cultivation
Before planting the corms, it is essential to plough the field thoroughly. Make the soil fine-grained and add twenty tons of cow dung manure during the final ploughing. Additionally, applying ninety kilograms of nitrogen, sixty kilograms of phosphorus, and potash per hectare increases soil fertility and results in a bountiful harvest.
When to Plant Seeds
Like every crop, saffron has a specific planting time. In hilly areas, planting is done between July and August, with mid-July considered the best time. In the plains, the best time is February to March.
How to Plant Corms
To plant the corms, dig a hole 6 to 7 centimetres deep. Keep a distance of about 10 centimetres between each corm. This ensures proper plant growth and adequate flowering.

How Much Will You Earn
Once the crop is ready, the saffron can be neatly packaged and sold at the nearest market or online. There is a constant demand for genuine saffron, so it fetches a good price. If you sell two kilograms of saffron a month, you can earn approximately six lakh rupees. Selling one kilogram can generate approximately three lakh rupees.
