The Ministry of Labour and Employment directed the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to initiate the process of activating employees’ Universal Account Number (UAN) using the one-time password (OTP) generated in the Aadhaar authentication for the purpose of ensuring that a larger number of employers and employees can access the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme announced in the Union Budget 2024-25.

In a statement, the Ministry stated, “Employers are required to complete the activation process of UAN using Aadhaar OTP for all employees who registered during the current financial year by November 30, 2024, such activation shall commence from the latest joiner.”

Easy Access to EPFO Services

UAN activation helps employees easily use all online services of EPFO. It allows them to manage their Provident Fund (PF) accounts, check and download PF passbooks, submit online claims for withdrawal or transfer, update personal details, and track claims in real time. With this, employees can access EPFO services anytime from home, without visiting the office.

How to Activate UAN Using Aadhaar OTP – Step-by-Step Guide

  • Visit the EPFO Member Portal.
  • Click on “Activate UAN” under “Important Links”.
  • Enter your UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, and Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

New Biometric Feature Coming Soon

The ministry said that in the future, UAN activation will also include biometric verification through facial recognition.

It added, “Using Aadhaar as an ID card makes government services simpler, more transparent, and faster. It removes the need to show many documents to prove identity.”
