What is the AFCAT exam and its purpose?

AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) is an exam conducted twice a year by the Indian Air Force. It recruits officers for the Flying Branch and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical). This exam not only provides young people with the opportunity to serve the nation but also opens the door to a prestigious career.

Application Dates and Exam Schedule

  • Application Process Starts: November 17, 2025
  • Application Deadline: December 14, 2025
  • Online Exam Date: January 31, 2026

Candidates are advised not to wait for the application deadline and to complete their registration process well in advance.

Eligibility and Age Limit

Flying Branch (AFCAT and NCC Special Entry)

  • Candidates must be between 20 and 24 years of age as of January 1, 2027.
  • Date of Birth: Between January 2, 2003, and January 1, 2007.

Candidates holding a valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL) issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) (India) can apply up to the age of 26 (born between January 2, 2001, and January 1, 2007).

Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical)

  • Age Limit: 20 to 26 years
  • Date of Birth: Between January 2, 2001, and January 1, 2007.

Application Fee and Payment Process

The application fee for AFCAT 2026 is ₹550 + GST. Candidates can pay the fee only through online mode (debit card, credit card, or net banking). Please note that payment by cash, check, or demand draft will not be accepted.

AFCAT 2026 Exam Pattern

The AFCAT exam will be conducted entirely online. A total of 100 objective questions will be asked, and the total marks are 300. The exam will be 2 hours long and will be conducted in English medium only.

  • Reasoning and Military Aptitude

How will the selection process be conducted?

Candidates will be selected in three stages:

  • Online Exam (AFCAT Test)
  • Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Interview
  • Medical Examination

Candidates who succeed in these three stages will be inducted as officers in the Indian Air Force.
