Japan Earthquake: A strong earthquake has struck Japan. The earthquake struck off the coast of northern Japan on Sunday evening, local time. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that the quake measured 6.7 magnitude and was located 10 kilometres below sea level off the coast of Iwate Prefecture. The agency has issued a tsunami warning for waves up to 1 meter high along the northern coast. No official information has yet been released regarding the damage caused by the earthquake. However, officials have warned that tsunami waves up to one meter high could reach the region.

Tsunami Warning Issued
A tsunami warning was issued after the strong tremor. The warning remained in effect for an hour after the initial quake. Public broadcaster NHK warned people to stay away from coastal areas due to the tsunami threat. It also warned that more tremors could occur in the region.

Let us tell you that this area is still affected by the devastating 2011 sea earthquake, which had a magnitude of 9.0 and the resulting tsunami that killed about 18,500 people.
