PAN with Aadhaar online Link: If you haven’t yet linked your PAN card to Aadhaar, delaying now could prove costly. The Income Tax Department has clarified that if the linking is not completed by the deadline, your PAN card will be deactivated. According to a notification issued by the CBDT in April 2025, the deadline is December 31, 2025. After this, your PAN will no longer be valid for any financial transactions. Therefore, it is extremely important to complete this process in time.

Why is a PAN Card Necessary?

A PAN card is a vital financial document for Indian citizens. It is essential for many purposes, such as paying taxes, opening bank accounts, obtaining loans, purchasing property, investing in the stock market, or mutual funds. If it becomes inactive, a person’s financial life can come to a standstill. This will complicate filing tax returns, using banking services, and conducting large financial transactions.

What happens if your PAN is inactive?

If the PAN is not linked to Aadhaar by December 31st, the PAN card will automatically become inactive. In this situation, a person will not be able to open a bank or demat account. Cash deposits or fixed deposits exceeding ₹50,000 will not be possible. Investments, loans, credit cards, property purchases, or benefits from government schemes will also be disrupted. In short, this situation will virtually halt your economic activities.

CBDT’s New Guidelines

In its notification, the CBDT stated that linking your PAN card with Aadhaar is essential to bring transparency to tax and identity-related processes. According to the department, this step will help curb fake PAN cards and tax evasion. Additionally, PANs that become inactive will need to undergo the linking process to reactivate them.
