Vande Bharat Sleeper: In the history of Indian Railways, the Vande Bharat Express has become synonymous with speed and comfort. In line with this, the Ministry of Railways has announced the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train, designed to provide passengers with comfortable sleep during long-distance journeys. Although this train was expected to hit the tracks in October 2025, this dream of tirelessly transporting passengers to their destinations has been delayed for the time being. Due to some significant technical and design flaws, the train failed to run in October. So now the question is: when will this special train finally run.

Vande Bharat Sleeper

The Ministry of Railways has made it clear that passenger safety and comfort are its top priorities. The Ministry states that while the train’s launch may take some time, there will be no compromise on its performance. Recently, the Railway Board issued a letter stating that certain deficiencies have been identified in the train, which require immediate rectification.

Design and Workmanship

Several deficiencies have been identified in its design and workmanship. For example, sharp corners were found near some berths, which could cause injury to passengers. Furthermore, the design of the window curtain handles was not convenient, and there were gaps between the berth connectors where dust accumulated, making cleaning difficult. The Board has issued strict instructions that this train will not be allowed to operate until all these deficiencies are completely rectified.

Safety Standards Top

Railways is taking continuous and stringent measures to ensure that the Vande Bharat Sleeper becomes the safest train in the country. The Ministry has made it clear that no train will operate without meeting the required safety standards. The train will be equipped with the state-of-the-art Kavach 4.0 safety system, and all fire safety regulations will be strictly followed. Additionally, the braking system will be regularly inspected.

For passenger convenience, the temperature inside the train will remain controlled despite frequent door openings, ensuring a comfortable environment. In case of an emergency, trained technical staff will be present on every route to detach train coaches within 15 minutes if necessary. To improve passenger communication, an announcement will be made on the PA system before the train departs, urging non-passengers to disembark, and safety messages will be continuously broadcast in Hindi, English, and the local language throughout the journey.

Expected to Run in December 2025

The big news regarding the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is that the RDSO (Research Design and Standards Organization) submitted its safety trial report to the Ministry on September 1, 2025. Now, final approval is awaited from the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS). Once all technical and design deficiencies are fully addressed and the CCRS gives the green light, the train will be fully ready for passengers. Although the Ministry has not set a specific date, according to media reports, this high-speed sleeper train could run on the tracks as early as December 2025.

A 5-Star Hotel-Like Experience

This 180 km/h electric train will make long-distance travel even more comfortable. Its first-class cabin interiors resemble those of a 5-star hotel, with reading lights, charging points, and plush seats providing passengers with a premium experience. The train’s route has not yet been finalized, but the Railways has directed all zones to begin preparations for its maintenance.
