22 Fake Universities Exposed Across India. UGC Fake University List. If you’re considering enrolling in a college or university, this news is crucial. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of 22 fake universities operating in the country. These institutions will no longer be permitted to grant degrees or offer accredited courses.
UGC stated that these institutions were misleading students and offering admissions by claiming to be unrecognised universities. The Commission urged candidates to verify their accreditation before enrolling in any institution on the UGC’s official website (ugc.gov.in).

Most Fake Universities in Delhi
The UGC’s list of fake universities found the highest number in Delhi. Ten institutions in the capital were found to be offering degrees and courses without accreditation. Additionally, four institutions in Uttar Pradesh, two each in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and West Bengal, and one each in Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Karnataka have been declared fake.
The UGC has warned all these institutions that they are no longer permitted to use the word “university” or “university.”
