To improve road safety measures, the Indian government recently amended the Motor Vehicles Act. The new MV Act has increased penalties for violations and law enforcement agencies are implementing the enforcement capabilities more strictly. During the residential enforcement days of the Blind Challenge, there were several tools available to the agencies to assist with detecting violations such as speeding, red light violations, and improper parking. To issue fines the enforcement officers would issue an e-challan provided to violators in-person, or an invitation to pay through SMS.

Unfortunately, the fine is not always communicated to the owner of the vehicle. This is why vehicle owners should periodically check for pending e-challans for their vehicle. It is worth noting that failure to pay an outstanding traffic chal len may one day result in strict enforcement measures, including possible imprisonment or court action. With that in mind, it is a good idea to check for pending e-challans by checking through the following simple steps. Let us see, how to do it.

How to Check and Pay Your Traffic Challan

1. Log in to the Website

To check if your vehicle has a pending challan, go to https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/
and click on ‘Get Challan Details’. Keep your vehicle registration number, chassis number, and engine number ready, as you will need them to check the details.

2. Provide the Required Information

On the page, enter your vehicle registration number, chassis number, or engine number. Fill in the verification code and click ‘Get Detail’.

The next page will show all e-challan details for your vehicle. You can see if there is any pending challan. If there is, the portal will display information such as the time and place of the violation and photo evidence.

3. Pay the Money

The portal also allows online payment of the challan. Click ‘Pay Now’ to start the payment. You will be redirected to a secure payment gateway where you can choose a payment method. After payment, a receipt will be available for your record.
