Snapchat new rules: including charge for saving images and videos. Check out the details

Snapchat: Snapchat charges for the storage of images and videos. Users who have been keeping images and videos in the Memories function of the well-known messaging service Snapchat for years are now being charged for doing so. This function was formerly totally free, but as a result of the company’s new regulations, storing more than 5GB of data will now cost money. Many individuals are using social media to voice their disapproval of this choice.

What is the updated storage strategy?

According to Snapchat, users who save more than 5GB of content will now need to upgrade to a premium plan. 100GB of storage is included in the initial offer for $1.99 (about ₹165) each month. For $3.99 (about ₹330), a Snapchat+ subscription will provide 250GB of storage. Users will have to download their chats and photographs within a 12-month temporary storage period if they decide not to pay.

Free access to the feature has been offered since 2016.

In 2016, Snapchat’s Memories feature launched. It made it possible to view movies and images that would otherwise vanish after a day. According to the firm, users have so far stored more than one trillion images and movies to Memories.

Why people get angry?

People on X and other social media sites are accusing Snapchat of being unjust and greedy in the wake of this ruling. After years of free use, many people claim that it is unreasonable to suddenly charge for it. The company admitted that switching from a free to a paid model is difficult, but they also claimed that it will help enhance functionality.

Which users are not impacted at the moment?

Since the majority of users’ memories are less than 5GB, the company has made it clear that they will not be impacted at this time. But they might also have to move to a premium plan when their data usage rises.
