UPI payments make life easy. With one click, you can send money in seconds. No need to carry cash. Asking friends or family for money is now simple.
Now there is big news. The NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) will stop the P2P request for payment feature. From October 1, 2025, you cannot send direct payment requests to friends, family, or anyone using apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, or any UPI app.
What is a ‘Collect Request’ or ‘Pull Transaction’?
A ‘Collect Request’ or ‘Pull Transaction’ lets you ask a friend to send you money. For example, if you want to borrow ₹1000, you would send a request using their UPI ID. They accept it, enter their PIN, and the money goes to your account.
Now, this feature is being stopped for normal users. The NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) has asked banks and payment apps to remove it from October 1. The goal is to make online payments safer. Some fraudsters were using this feature to cheat people.
This feature will still work for merchants. So, if you buy tickets on IRCTC, shop on Flipkart or Amazon, or pay for Netflix, merchants can send payment requests. But you cannot send a request to a friend, for example, to split a restaurant bill. Earlier, NPCI had limited ‘Collect Requests’ to ₹2000, but now it is stopping it completely.
Why was this feature made and what changes now?
The feature was made to make payments easy, like reminding friends about loans or paying online faster. But fraudsters misused it, sending fake requests to scam people. That is why NPCI is stopping it.
This change may make small payments a bit harder. For example, to split a dinner bill, friends must pay individually instead of sending a request. The good part is that it will reduce fraud. If you use UPI, always check who you are paying to avoid fake requests. Overall, this move will help protect your money.
