What did CM Yogi Adityanath say?
The situation worsened after the crowd gathered in support of “I Love Mohammad Saheb.” Addressing the Vikasit Vision-2 Conclave, CM Yogi Adityanath said that yesterday in Bareilly, a Maulana forgot who was in power in the state and thought he could disrupt the law and order at will. However, we made it clear that there would be no blockades or curfews.
Further, Yogi Adityanath said that the lessons we have taught will make future generations think twice before rioting. He said, “What kind of method is this to disrupt law and order? This was the norm in UP before 2017, but after 2017, we haven’t even allowed a curfew to be imposed. The story of UP’s development begins here.” CM Yogi said that under previous governments, rioters were invited to the Chief Minister’s residence and honored.
Why did the mob erupt in Bareilly?
Violence broke out in Bareilly after Friday prayers, with altercations between rioters and police officers. Maulana Tauqeer Raza had called for a crowd to gather in support of “I Love Mohammad Sahib.” Bareilly officials had already issued instructions to prevent crowds from gathering, and police forces were deployed at various locations.
Despite this, people disobeyed and began marching through the streets, holding posters. The rioters also began tearing down police barricades at various locations. Many rioters in the city began throwing bricks and stones at the police. What followed was a violent incident. Police fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse the crowds. Several people were injured in the police lathicharge. It took approximately 30 minutes for the situation in Bareilly to be brought under control.
