The central government has started work on the 8th Pay Commission. If it happens, about 50 lakh government workers and 65 lakh pensioners will be affected. Some reports say it may come in 2026, others say it may come in 2027.
A meeting was held with the Government Employees National Confederation (GENC). Union Minister Jitendra Singh led the meeting. He said talks are also going on with state governments. An official notice may come soon.
Because of the festival season, this news is very important. Along with the 8th Pay Commission, there may also be a 3% DA hike. This will help more than 1.2 crore workers and pensioners. After GST relief, this will give them more money support.
Big Increase in Minimum Basic Pay
The 8th Pay Commission may raise the minimum basic pay. Right now, it is ₹18,000. It could go up to ₹26,000. This will give relief to workers as prices and living costs are rising. Many workers feel this increase was due for a long time. The new pay will also give more financial safety to government workers.
Dearness Allowance Hike
The Dearness Allowance (DA) may also go up with the 8th Pay Commission. At present, workers and pensioners get 55% DA. A 2% hike was given recently. Experts think the next DA hike may be 3% for June–December 2025. It may be announced in October or November. This will give extra money help to workers and pensioners in the festival season.
If both the new pay and the DA hike come, it will give big relief to many families. This will help with rising prices and also give long-term money safety. But the final date will depend on when the commission starts and the money plans of the government.
