Vivo Y31 Series specifications: The Vivo Y31 lineup has formally launched in India as the successors to last year’s Y29, but this time, they are accompanied by a Pro variant. The phones are meant for budget and mid-range customers with an emphasis on battery life, fashion, and endurance. The basic Vivo Y31 is priced starting at ₹14,999, while the Y31 Pro is priced starting at ₹18,999. It comes with a 6,500mAh battery, 44W quick charging, and a 50MP camera. And both phones read well on paper, but how do they fare against competitors?

Design and Durability: Luxury Aesthetic with Solid Protection
The design of the Y31 has been improved compared to the Y29, especially for the camera module. Comes in Rose Red and Diamond Green, the phone follows the Y-series tradition of providing a chic and fashionable look. Its unique selling point is its IP68 and IP69 rating, which makes it extremely dust-resistant and water-resistant, uncommon in this category. The Pro version, coming in Mocha Brown and Dreamy White, accepts IP64 protection but compensates with military-grade toughness.
Display: Slightly Upgraded Panel vs Standard LCD
The Vivo Y31 comes with a 6.68-inch HD+ LCD screen and a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,000 nits of brightness. Though smooth enough for daily consumption, the resolution falls short compared to the competition using FHD+ or OLED displays. The Vivo Y31 Pro does better with a 6.72-inch FHD+ LCD and 1,050 nits of brightness for a sharper and more colorful display experience. Both screens are LCD, which could be disappointing for buyers anticipating AMOLED at this cost.
Performance: Snapdragon vs Dimensity
Inside, the Vivo Y31 gets the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, fabricated on a 4nm process for improved efficiency over the Y29’s Dimensity 6300. This should provide more seamless performance, although a final judgment will have to wait until hands-on experience. The Y31 Pro, on the other hand, uses the MediaTek Dimensity 7300, which is capable but already beginning to show its age relative to rivals opting for the newer Dimensity 7400. Performance, then, is one place where Vivo might have shot higher.
Battery and Cameras: Huge Numbers, Same Old Layout
Vivo has provided both devices with a big power boost through a 6,500mAh battery and 44W fast charging, compared to the Y29’s 5,500mAh capacity. This upgrade promises a whole day of usage, even for intensive users. On the camera side, the configuration is quite typical: Y31 has a 50MP primary camera with a supporting sensor and an 8MP selfie camera, while the Y31 Pro has a 2MP depth sensor in addition to its 50MP primary snapper. Not revolutionary, per se, these cameras will likely be good enough for casual photography.
Pricing and Variants: Value Questioned
The Vivo Y31 is available in 4GB + 128GB (₹14,999) and 6GB + 128GB (₹16,499) variants. Using 4GB of RAM in 2025 seems archaic, given that AI-centric features such as Circle to Search and AI Screen Translation are present on the phone. The Y31 Pro comes in 8GB RAM + 128GB storage (₹18,999) and 8GB + 256GB (₹20,999) options, which are better-sounding but still behind competition that demands more base RAM and newer chips at the same price level.
Verdict: It Looks Good, But Performance Wouldn’t Have Been Better
The Vivo Y31 series is clearly emphasizing style, durability, and battery life, ensuring users have great everyday reliability. The IP ratings, high-end design, and massive 6,500mAh battery make both phones the best in their budget and mid-range offerings. But with sacrifices in performance and choice of RAM, the long-term value is called into question. If durability, large battery, and fair cameras are your priorities, then the Y31 series is definitely worth considering. But if performance and future-proofing are your top priorities, then some of the competition may be the better value.
