GST Council Meeting Update: The government has made a big change in the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Now there will be only two slabs of GST. Earlier, there were four slabs, but now two have been removed. The most important thing to note is that there will be two GST slabs, with rates of 5% and 18%. The government has completely stopped 12% and 28%.
All the things included in these slabs will become very cheap. This will benefit not only commercial but also common customers. A separate tax slab has been created for things that harm the public, which will be 40%. All these proposals have been finalized in the GST Council meeting, which started in Delhi on Wednesday.The

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given big information about the decisions taken in the GST meeting. She said that our focus is on the common citizens of the country. She stated that the work of approving the GST slab was not done with the farmers and labourers in mind. All the Finance Ministers of the states involved in the meeting have supported this decision.
Further, he said that, understanding the demand of the time, everyone has agreed to approve this proposal. After this, all the items will become cheaper. The new tax slab will come into effect from 22 September 2025.
Which items will become cheaper?
Many products are going to become cheaper as soon as the two new tax slabs are implemented. Things like milk, dhena, paneer, pizza, bread and paratha have been made GST-free. Meaning it has been kept in the zero slab. Now, no GST will have to be paid on these. Apart from this, tax will be imposed at this rate on all everyday used products, including shampoo, soap, and ioil
Pasta, coffee noodles have also been included in the 5 per cent GST slab. No,w 1per centnt GST will be applicable on small cars instead of per cent. GST on TV, fridge has also been reduced to 0 per cent. Apart from this, it has been decided to make life-saving medicines absolutely tax-free by removing them from GST. Some cancer medicines have also been included in these.
Separate slab for harmful things
A separate GST slab has been created for super luxury goods. Pan masala, cigarettes, gutka and other tobacco products, bidhi have been kept in the 40 per cent GST slab. Along with flavoured carbonated beverages, fast foods have also been kept under this slab. For information, let us tell you that new GST slabs will be implemented on September 22.
