Rain has caused heavy loss across the country. There are reports of landslides and cloudbursts in the mountains, and there are floods in the plains. Because of this, crops have also been badly damaged in many states.

The loss of crops can be covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Under this scheme, farmers can insure their Rabi and Kharif crops. If crops are destroyed due to natural disaster, insect attack, or any other reason, farmers can claim compensation. But while making a claim, farmers must take care of some important things. If these steps are not followed, they may face problems in getting the compensation for crop loss.

What is Fasal Bima Yojana

Under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers can insure their Rabi, Kharif, or commercial/horticulture crops. Farmers have to pay only a small premium. The rest of the money is paid by the government.

  • For Rabi crops: 1.5% premium
  • For Kharif crops: 2% premium
  • For commercial crops: 4% premium

If the crop is damaged or destroyed due to any reason, the farmer can get compensation from the insurance company.

Do Not Make These 3 Mistakes

If a farmer’s crop is damaged, he can claim compensation. But 3 common mistakes can stop the claim.

1. Report the loss on time

If crops are damaged, inform immediately. Many farmers delay giving information, and their claim gets rejected. Report the loss within 72 hours to the insurance company.

2. Give correct information

Do not give wrong or incomplete details. Always write the correct crop name, bank account details, season (Rabi/Kharif), mobile number, and crop loss. Wrong information can stop your claim money.

3. Attach all documents

Always attach all documents with the claim form. Add crop loss photos, bank account details, Aadhaar card, and land papers. If documents are missing, your claim may be rejected.

Where to Report Crop Loss

Farmers can report crop damage in these ways:

  1. Through the Crop Insurance Mobile App
  2. By contacting the insurance company
  3. At the nearest agriculture office
  4. By calling helpline number 14447
  5. If farmers avoid these mistakes, they can get quick relief and compensation on time.
