On August 18, the Postal Department made an official announcement that, from October 1, the registered letter service will be completely discontinued and registered speed post will be started in its place.

Registered speed post will provide faster delivery
The new service has been linked with modern technology and air transport, which will make delivery much faster than before. Till now, letters sent by registered postal service used to be delivered by road and rail, due to which it took more time. But now the registered speed post will be sent through an airplane. Due to this, court summons, legal notices, divorce-related papers, and other important documents will now reach faster and safer than before.
Why was the change necessary?
The Indian Postal Department said that this change has been made keeping in view the needs of the customers and the demand of the market. The new service will have the same legal validity as the old registered letter. Apart from this, the postal department has made the delivery process more transparent and easier with the help of digital technology.
The postman will now work from a smartphone
India Post has provided smartphones to 1.8 lakh postal employees, while 21,000 employees are using their personal phones. Postman Mobile App (PMA) has been installed on these smartphones. Through this, the postman can immediately enter the update of every delivery, and information is also sent to the receiver through SMS. This will not only increase transparency, but customers will also keep getting information every moment.
