Land Acquisition Row: Bihar Farmers’ Protest Brings Traffic to a Standstill

Bihar Assembly Elections: Before the Bihar assembly elections, the political temperature in the state is rising. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is currently conducting the Voter Rights Yatra against the central and state governments and the Election Commission. On the other hand, after the students in Bihar, now the farmers have come out on the road to protest.

On Monday, thousands of farmers carrying banners of the United Kisan Morcha are seen on the roads with their demands. Led by Buxar MP and farmer leader Sudhar Singh, farmers marched from Buddha Park towards CM Nitish Kumar. The police have stopped them by barricading the intersection at Dakbungla. Due to this, a lot of anger is being seen among the farmers towards the administration.

Roads closed on both sides

In view of the increasing number of farmers and the intensity of the movement, heavy police administration has been deployed on the spot. Along with this, water cannon vehicles have been called in view of the possibility of the situation getting out of control. The road from Patna Junction to Dakbungla and both sides have been completely blocked. The problem of road jam persists.

Know why there is protest

Actually, the biggest protest of the farmers is regarding the Bharatmala project of the central government. Under this project, a high quality road is being built from Varanasi to Kolkata via Ranchi. Land is also being acquired for this project in Buxar district. Farmers allege that land of thousands of people is being acquired, but proper compensation is not being given in return.
