RBI Latest Exchange Guidelines: In 2016, the government implemented demonetization, discontinuing the 1000 and 500 rupee notes. After this, the government issued new 500 notes. A recent message is going viral on WhatsApp, claiming that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will stop the circulation of new 500 rupee notes by March 2026. It is said in this message that the RBI has ordered the banks to gradually stop withdrawing 500 rupee notes from ATMs.

According to the viral message, 500 notes will be removed from 75% of ATMs by 30 September 2025 and 90% of ATMs by 31 March 2026. It also said that going forward, only 100 and 200 rupee notes will be available from ATMs. Also, people have been advised to start using their 500 rupee notes from now onwards.

PIB Fact Check said it is misleading

For information, let us tell you that the fact-check team of the government agency Press Information Bureau (PIB) has called this viral message completely false and misleading. They have clarified that no such instructions have been given to the banks through the RBI, and the 500 rupee note is still completely valid.

PIB has posted on its official X account and asked people not to pay any attention to such rumors, and before sharing any information, confirm it officially.

500 rupee notes are valid
