Big news for lakhs of States people. The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh is set to offer significant support to the elderly. They plan to extend old age pensions to an additional five lakh seniors in the state. Right now, around 60 lakh elderly individuals are benefiting from a pension of one thousand rupees every three months. The government has already laid out the budget for this initiative, and anyone eligible can apply for the old age pension.
This is part of the government’s strategy. Currently, 60 lakh seniors are receiving one thousand rupees every three months through the old age pension scheme. The Yogi government aims to include five lakh more eligible seniors in this program. By the year 2025-26, they plan to provide pensions to a total of 65 lakh elderly individuals. They’ve proposed a budget of Rs 8103 crore for this purpose.
The Social Welfare Department has requested funding. Last year, they received Rs 7377 crore for the old age pension scheme. For the upcoming financial year, they are asking for an additional Rs 726.64 crore. Overall, the Social Welfare Department is seeking Rs 13056 crore for various welfare programs, which is an increase of Rs 1052 crore compared to the previous year’s budget. They have also requested Rs 1862 crore for scholarships, Rs 500 crore for family benefits, and Rs 55 crore for the Abhudaya scheme.
Who can benefit from this scheme? Any man or woman over the age of 60 in the state can apply. The goal is to provide financial help to those seniors who can no longer work due to age. To apply, you’ll need an income certificate, bank account number, Aadhaar card, and a passport-sized photo. The income limit is set at Rs 56,460 for urban areas and Rs 46,080 for rural areas.
