8th Pay Commission: The 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC) has just wrapped up its data submission phase this week. Earlier, the commission had also concluded the suggestion and memorandum submission process on June 15. Nevertheless, the consultation process is still active, with the panel scheduling meetings and state visits in Delhi, Chennai, Puducherry, and Chandigarh during August and September 2026.

Last month, the Commission extended the deadline for data submissions from various central and state government departments and Union Territory (UT) ministries via the 8th CPC online data portal to July 31, 2026. This extension provided stakeholders with extra time to finalize their submissions.

The Commission made it clear that data submissions would only be accepted through the official portal. They also emphasized that “physical data, Excel sheets, hard copies, emails, etc., will not be considered.”

Impacting over 1 crore individuals

The decisions made by the Commission will have a direct effect on more than 10 million people. This includes around 5 million central government employees and about 6.5 million central government pensioners, which encompasses defense and railway personnel as well as retired employees. All of these individuals will see benefits from increases in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR). The 8th Pay Commission has been engaging with stakeholders since April and has held numerous state visits and meetings throughout April, May, June, and July. Just last week, the Commission reported meetings in Chandigarh, Delhi, Chennai, and Puducherry.

The Commission aims to collect feedback from labor representatives, ministries, pension organizations, central government entities, employee unions, and other relevant stakeholders to reach a consensus. After reviewing the data, decisions will be made regarding allowances, pension formulas, and salary structures for the affected employee and pensioner groups.

When will the final recommendation of the Pay Commission come?

According to the plan, the commission will submit its final recommendations on November 3, 2025, approximately 18 months after its formation. This means that the panel’s recommendations could come by February or April 2027. These meetings are crucial, as the suggestions made by the delegates will play a key role in shaping the commission’s deliberations.
