8th Pay Commission Salary: Big news is here for central government employees. The significant consultation meetings for the 8th Pay Commission in Delhi are set to wrap up today, August 10. During these meetings, registered central employee unions, pensioners, and associations from Delhi and nearby areas had the chance to voice their demands to the commission.

In the past, several prominent unions, including the National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) and the Federation of National Postal Organizations (FNPO), have presented memorandums seeking adjustments to salaries, pensions, and allowances. After reviewing all these proposals and requests, the Pay Commission is anticipated to deliver its final recommendations to the central government by May-June 2027.

In addition, the Indian Railway Technical Supervisors Association (IRTSA) has submitted a comprehensive memorandum to the Commission, strongly advocating for an increase in the minimum salary to Rs 52,600 per month and the establishment of a fitment factor based on various pay levels.

Minimum salary of Rs 52,600 and fitment factor requested

IRTSA is urging the 8th Pay Commission to raise the minimum salary under the 7th Pay Commission from ₹18,000 to ₹52,600. The association has suggested a fitment factor of 2.92 for determining the minimum salary.

According to IRTSA, the outdated calculation method should be revised to reflect modern family expenses, including internet costs, packaged drinking water, children’s education, and medical insurance.

Furthermore, there is a call for a higher fitment factor beyond pay-level 6 for employees working in railway security and technical roles.

IRTSA’s suggested fitment factor by pay level

Pay Level-wise Proposed Fitment Factor by IRTSA:

Level 1–5: 2.92

Level 6–8: 3.50

Level 9–12: 3.80

Level 13–16: 4.09

Level 17–18: 4.38

Rather than applying a uniform fitment factor across all pay levels, the association has proposed varying fitment factors based on the roles and responsibilities of the employees:

Demand for 5% annual increment and career advancement

IRTSA has not only called for a salary increase but has also recommended enhancements in the career progression and benefits for employees:

5% Annual Increment: It has been suggested to increase the current annual salary increment of 3% to 5%.

Group B Gazetted Status: To overcome the stagnation in the careers of Junior Engineers (JE) and Senior Section Engineers (SSE), there has been a demand to grant Group B Gazetted Status to SSE.

Revision in MACP and allowances: Demands have been made to relax the Modified Assured Career Progression (MACPS) norms and increase night duty allowance, overtime, risk and hardship allowance as per current inflation rates.

What’s next?

The consultation process of the 8th Pay Commission will continue even after the Delhi meetings are completed. The Commission will visit Jaipur between August 31st and September 1st. This will be followed by meetings with various employee organizations in Chennai on September 7th-8th, Puducherry on September 9th, and Chandigarh from September 16th-18th.
