What is fitment factor and why is it important?

The fitment factor is the most important factor in determining final pay and allowances. It has a major impact on salary increases, as it is the multiplier used to revise an employee’s basic pay. The higher the fitment factor, the higher the revised basic salary and, consequently, the higher the total salary. The central government has not yet announced the fitment factor or specified a specific range. For example, the revised basic pay of a Level 1 employee could increase from the current Rs 18,000 to Rs 37,800 under the 2.1 fitment factor, Rs 45,000 under 2.5 and Rs 54,000 under 3.0. Similarly, the revised basic pay of a Level 10 employee could increase from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1.18 lakh, Rs 1.40 lakh and Rs 1.68 lakh respectively under the three outlooks, he added.
