8th Pay Commission Salary: The current topic of discussion in the country revolves around the 8th Pay Commission and its potential impact on the salaries of central government employees. One crucial aspect being deliberated upon is the fitment factor, which plays a key role in determining employees’ basic salaries and associated allowances.

At present, employee unions are advocating for a fitment factor ranging from 2 to 3.8. The repercussions of setting the fitment factor at either 2.0x, 2.5x, or 3.0x on the salaries and house rent allowances of employees from Level 1 to Level 13 are being explored through calculations and graphical representations.

Changes in the basic salary corresponding to different fitment factors are as follows:

– Level 1 (Initial Position): Current Basic Pay is Rs 18000.
– With a 2.0x fitment factor, it will increase to Rs 36000.
– With a 2.5x fitment factor, it will rise to Rs 45000.
– With a 3.0x fitment factor, it will directly go up to Rs 54000.

– Level 4 (Clerk/Junior Assistant): Current Basic Pay is Rs 25500.
– Revised Basic Pay will be Rs 51000 with a 2.0x fitment factor.
– With a 2.5x fitment factor, it will become Rs 63750.
– With a 3.0x fitment factor, it will reach Rs 76500.

– Level 7 (Chief Inspector/Gazetted Officer): Current Basic Pay is Rs 44900.
– At 2.0x, it will be Rs 89800, at 2.5x it will be Rs 112250, and at 3.0x it will be Rs 134700.

– Level 13 (Senior Officer/Director Level): Current Basic Pay is Rs 123100.
– At 2.0x, it will be Rs 246200, at 2.5x it will be Rs 307750, and at 3.0x it will be Rs 369300.

The increase in basic salary will also lead to a rise in House Rent Allowance (HRA), which is a fixed percentage of the basic salary. While the fitment factor does not directly impact HRA, an increase in basic pay will result in a significant HRA increase. The HRA payable for different levels and city categories (X, Y, and Z) can be calculated based on the new basic pay and existing HRA rates.

Adil Shetty, CEO of BankBazaar, emphasized the substantial impact even a slight adjustment in the fitment factor can have on salaries across all pay levels and associated benefits like house rent allowance. He anticipates that the fitment factor decision by the government will consider all factors before finalizing it. These projected figures are based on preliminary estimations, and the actual salary structure will only be clarified once the 8th Pay Commission’s final recommendations are released and endorsed by the government.
