8th Pay Commission: Major update for central government employees. It’s been almost ten months since the establishment of the Eighth Pay Commission on November 3, 2025. A significant meeting of the Pay Commission is set to happen in Jaipur. Let’s delve into the specifics of the meeting and the latest updates concerning the Pay Commission.

When is the meeting scheduled?

The Pay Commission is gearing up for its upcoming meeting, planned for August 31 and September 1, 2026, in Jaipur. The deadline for form submission for this meeting was August 18. Employees from central departments and organizations in Rajasthan will have the opportunity to present their suggestions to the Pay Commission during this meeting. Subsequently, the Pay Commission will include the relevant recommendations into its report and forward them to the government for consideration. The government will then review these suggestions and make final decisions on matters like fitment factor, salary adjustments, pension reforms, allowances, and other related issues.

What is the latest update?

Recent progress indicates that the 8th Pay Commission is swiftly progressing through the discussion and consultation phase. The Commission aims to enhance the inclusivity of the discussion process by allowing a broader spectrum of unions, stakeholders, and associations to express their viewpoints and concerns. In recent months, the 8th Pay Commission has visited significant states and union territories such as Delhi, Ladakh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha. These interactions are critical as the inputs from unions and stakeholders nationwide will significantly impact the final recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission.

On September 3rd, the Pay Commission will mark ten months since its inception. The Commission was granted 18 months from its establishment in November 2025 to present its final report to the Union Cabinet. It is anticipated that the Commission will submit its final report by May-June 2027, followed by the government’s implementation of its recommendations, potentially from January 1, 2026. However, the government may choose to modify these recommendations as per its discretion.

Overview of the fitment formula

Following extensive discussions during the 6th and 7th Pay Commissions, fitment factors of 1.86 and 2.57 were agreed upon respectively. The fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission is yet to be determined, with prominent unions like the NC(JCM) and BPMS advocating for a factor exceeding 3.5 times.
