Train Cancelled: The heavy rains are having a major effect on rail travel. Recently, several trains on different routes heading to Mumbai were either cancelled or rescheduled. Due to a landslide in the Bhor Ghat area, Central Railway has cancelled 30 trains, which include both long-distance and intercity services. These cancellations will remain in effect until July 17th. As a result, rail traffic on the Mumbai-Pune route will continue to be disrupted until that date, as announced by the railway on Friday (July 11th).
In a statement, Central Railway confirmed the cancellation of 30 train services, which includes 14 daily trains, eight trains that were scheduled to run on specific dates, and eight special trains.
Efforts are ongoing to restore rail travel
Officials reported that the heavy rainfall on July 6th led to landslides at multiple points between Karjat and Lonavala stations, causing significant damage to all three railway lines. Most landslides were reported near Thakurwadi and Monkey Hill Cabin in the Ghat section. While restoration work is being carried out urgently, challenging terrain and hazardous conditions are hindering the complete return to normal rail services. Officials noted that transporting construction materials to certain areas is proving difficult, and railway teams are working closely with the district administration and forest department to restore the lines as quickly as possible. They mentioned that one of the three railway lines has been restored, while work continues on the other two.
Which trains have been cancelled?
The Railways has announced the temporary cancellation of daily services, including the Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express, CSMT-Hyderabad Express, Chennai Egmore Superfast Mail, and Hubballi-Dadar Express, from July 10 to July 17. Furthermore, trains that were scheduled to operate during this timeframe, such as the Mahalaxmi Express, Jodhpur-Hadapsar Express, Dadar-Satara Express, and Dadar-Sainagar Shirdi Express, have also been cancelled. Several special trains connecting Mumbai and Pune to Gorakhpur, Ghazipur City, and Hazrat Nizamuddin have also been affected.
State transport will run 200 additional buses
Meanwhile, state Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Friday said the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation will operate 200 additional bus trips daily on the Mumbai-Pune route from Saturday to mitigate the inconvenience caused to passengers due to train cancellations.
The inaccessible Bhor Ghat or Khandala Ghat section on the Mumbai-Pune route has three railway lines – the up line (towards Mumbai), the down line (towards Pune) and the middle line.
