Tata Safari EV to Avinya X – 3 New Tata Electric Cars Launching by 2027 — Check Details

Tata Motors: The Indian electric car market is no longer limited to just small, affordable vehicles. Buyers are now seeking large SUVs, spacious interiors, premium features, and long-range electric cars. Recognising this market shift, Tata Motors is preparing to take its EV strategy to the next level. The company already boasts a robust lineup, including the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Harrier EV, and the upcoming Sierra EV.

Now, Tata Motors is working on three new electric models to expand into the large and premium segments; the Safari EV and the Avinya family are generating the most buzz. Tata Motors is gearing up to enter the large and premium EV segments over the next few years. The Safari EV, an electric MPV, and the Avinya family will be the company’s major upcoming electric models.

Safari EV

The Safari EV is expected to be the first of these upcoming vehicles to launch. It will be based on the same ‘acti.ev+’ electric architecture used for the Harrier EV but will offer the advantage of three-row seating. In terms of design, it will resemble the familiar Safari, though it will utilise the same battery package found in its five-seater sibling.

Reports suggest it could launch within the next 12 to 18 months. Clearly, this vehicle is being developed to directly challenge the Mahindra XEV 9S, a move that will intensify competition in the three-row electric SUV segment.

New Electric MPV

Apart from the Safari EV, Tata Motors is reportedly working on an all-new electric MPV. It is being designed for customers who prioritise ample cabin space and the practicality of three rows of seating.

Although this project has not yet been officially confirmed, its market entry would reflect the EV market’s evolution beyond the compact SUV segment. If the project receives the green light, it could directly compete with upcoming models like the Maruti Suzuki YMC.

Avinya

Now, let’s discuss the highlight of this entire plan: the Avinya. It will occupy the flagship position in Tata Motors’ upcoming electric portfolio. Initially showcased as a futuristic concept, the production version has undergone significant changes during development. While it was previously linked to a JLR-derived architecture, current reports suggest Tata may use the Chery-JLR Freelander platform for this model.

Notably, this architecture supports multiple body styles, enabling Tata to develop an entire premium EV family under the ‘Avinya’ name. Production of the Avinya range is expected to commence around mid-2027, with a sportback body style leading the lineup. Additional derivatives are slated to join the family in the subsequent years.
