Shubman Gill has been dropped from India’s T20 team. A few months ago, he was given a place in the T20 squad as vice-captain, but his performance was not as expected. He was not fitting into the team combination, and hence, he has been dropped from the T20 team and now he will not play in the 2026 World Cup. A video of Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir is going viral, in which he was questioned about Gill’s exclusion. Gambhir remained completely silent.
Gautam Gambhir’s reaction as Shubman Gill dropped from the squad
When Shubman Gill was included in the T20 squad as vice-captain, it seemed he would get long-term opportunities and would definitely play in the T20 World Cup. However, when BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia announced the team in the presence of Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Suryakumar Yadav, everyone was surprised. Gill’s name was not included in the squad, and Ishan Kishan was given the spot as the third opener.
A video surfaced of Gautam Gambhir leaving the airport, where the media questioned him about Team India’s selection for the T20 World Cup and the omission of Shubman Gill. The Indian head coach remained silent, ignoring all questions, and left in his car. This video is now going viral on social media, and everyone is surprised that Gambhir did not comment on the T20 World Cup.
Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill failed to make an impact in T20 cricket. Gill scored just 132 runs in the five-match T20 series against Australia, while in the recent series against South Africa, he managed 32 runs in three T20 matches. This disappointing performance led to Gill’s exclusion from the Indian team. However, the captain and chief selector cited team combination as the real reason.
