Pat Cummins joins the team for The Ashes 2025-26
Australia has announced its 15-man squad for the third Ashes Test against England, with the return of captain Pat Cummins being a major highlight. Cummins has been out of action for the past few months due to lower back pain and last played during the West Indies tour in July. He has now been included in the squad for the match starting December 17 in Adelaide.
Australia defeated England by eight wickets in the second Test played in Brisbane to take a 2-0 lead in the series. The team has been kept virtually unchanged since this victory, with only Cummins being added. Under-pressure opener Usman Khawaja has also been given a chance again. He missed the second Test due to a back injury, but now retains his place in the squad for the third match. Australia opted for an all-seam attack in the Brisbane day-night Test and spinner Nathan Lyon was left out. However, given the pitch at the Adelaide Oval, Lyon’s return to the playing XI is almost certain.
After the Adelaide Test, the fourth match of the series will be played in Melbourne on Boxing Day. This will be followed by the final and fifth Test in Sydney, starting on January 4th. Australia already has a strong hold on England with a 2-0 lead, and a win in the Adelaide Test could almost seal the series in their favor.
Australia squad for the third Test: Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster.
