Steve Smith makes a big statement.
During a press conference before the match, Steve Smith said that this would not be his last Test. “I’m really enjoying it,” he said. He further added, “It’s fun. We’ve got a really good team. The team we’ve had over the last three or four years has obviously played in two World Test Championship finals.”
“Players have performed well at different times. It’s never been a one or two-man job,” he said. “It’s been a collective effort from all the players. Being a part of that has been great, and now as a senior player, hopefully, I can help some of the younger guys coming through.”

“I can teach them the game of Test cricket. I think that’s my role now.” Smith has been contemplating his future series after series for the past few summers. But on Saturday, he gave a strong indication that he might be part of the Ashes series in England in 2027.
He also questioned the coach and selector.s
Steve Smith said, “Ultimately, you probably want a group of players that you can take through that cycle to get to a World Test Championship final. I think that’s a question for the coach and selectors as well.”

“I’ve still got plenty of time left. These are things I think about all the time. Now that Usman is out of the team, he’s our experienced player.” It probably wouldn’t be a good idea if both of us went out this week.
