After the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, fast bowler Ishant Sharma received a strict punishment from the BCCI. He was fined 25% of his match fee for breaking the IPL rules.
Ishant Found Guilty Under Article 2.2
Ishant Sharma was found guilty of a Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He accepted his mistake and also agreed to the match referee’s decision. According to the IPL statement, “Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 and accepted the match referee’s decision.” For Level 1 offenses, the referee’s decision is final and cannot be challenged.
What Does Article 2.2 Say?
Article 2.2 includes actions not considered part of normal cricket behavior. This may include:
Hitting or kicking the stumps
Damaging advertisement boards
Breaking dressing room doors, windows, or other fixtures
Swinging the bat in anger and causing damage
Such behavior is treated seriously and can result in fines or demerit points.
Ishant’s Poor Performance Against SRH
Ishant Sharma had a difficult match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He gave away 53 runs in 4 overs and did not take a single wicket.
Gujarat Titans Continue Winning Streak
In the match, SRH batted first and scored 152 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the Gujarat Titans chased down the target in just 16.4 overs, losing only 3 wickets.
