India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to be announced soon. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Suryakumar Yadav will hold a press conference after announcing the squad. Preparations are underway, but in the meantime, find out how many players from the T20 World Cup 2024 winning squad will not be part of Team India’s squad for this year’s T20 World Cup. You will be surprised to know that nearly half of the members of the T20 World Cup-winning team will not play in this year’s mega event. These include legends like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
India may have to play T20 World Cup without 7 star players
it is quite likely that seven members of the final 15 selected for the T20 World Cup 2024 will not be included in this year’s T20 World Cup squad. While one or two may get a chance as reserve players, they will not be included in the final 15. The first name among these will be captain Rohit Sharma, who has retired from T20 International cricket.
Apart from him, legendary batsman Virat Kohli and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have also retired from this format. All three announced their retirement after the T20 World Cup 2024 final.
These three key players are set to be excluded, along with wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal may be selected as a reserve for the 2026 T20 World Cup, but he will not be part of the main squad.
Besides the retired players, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, and Yuzvendra Chahal are currently nowhere to be seen in India’s T20 squad. Consequently, they too will be excluded from the final 15 and reserve list. Thus, half the team will be new to the T20 World Cup this time.
