New Delhi: Vinod Sehwag, brother of former Indian cricket team’s legendary batsman Virender Sehwag, has been arrested by the Manimajra police station in a cheque bounce case of Rs 7 crore. After appearing in the court, the court has sent them to judicial custody. This case is related to Jalta Food and Beverages Company, whose directors Vinod Sehwag, Vishnu Mittal and Sudhir Malhotra were booked under 138 NI Act.
What is the whole matter?
Krishna Mohan, owner of Shri Naina Plastic Factory located in Baddi (Himachal Pradesh), had lodged a complaint with the police that Delhi-based Jalta Food and Beverages Company had purchased some goods from his factory. The company had issued a cheque of Rs 7 crore for its payment. But when the complainant deposited this cheque in Oriental Bank of Commerce, Manimajra, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds in the account. When the complainant did not receive the payment, he filed a case in the court under Section 138 (Negotiable Instruments Act). But when the accused did not appear in court, the court declared the three as fugitives in 2022 and ordered the police to register a case against them.
Hearing will be held in court
Following the court order, on 25 September 2023, the Manimajra police station registered a case against the three accused under section 174 (disobedience to court order). After the arrest, Vinod Sehwag has filed a bail application in 174 cases registered against him. The court has directed the Manimajra police station to file a reply on this by March 10, 2025. Apart from this, 138 cases related to check bounce will be heard in the court. In this hearing, it will be decided what further legal action will be taken against the other accused.
Vinod Sehwag has been in controversies earlier too
It is worth noting that Virender Sehwag’s brother Vinod Sehwag’s name has already come up in cases of financial irregularities and financial fraud. However, this time after his arrest the matter has become serious and all eyes are on the court’s decision.
