UP Ayushman Card Latest News: Ahead of the assembly elections, there is good news for ration cardholders in Uttar Pradesh. The state government has approved the inclusion of all ration cardholders in the state under the PM Ayushman Bharat scheme. If this proposal is implemented, crores of people in the state will gain access to cashless medical treatment.
Eligible individuals can receive cashless medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh annually at listed hospitals under the PM Ayushman Bharat scheme. This means that beneficiaries will not have to spend a single rupee at the hospital for their treatment; the entire cost of the patient’s care will be covered under the scheme.
Benefits for Crores of People
There are approximately 3.63 crore ration cardholders in Uttar Pradesh, of whom 14.61 crore individuals are eligible to avail the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Eligible beneficiaries will receive cashless medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh. Meanwhile, government employees may receive medical coverage through their respective departments. This proposal from the state government will bring relief to a large number of people in the state.
Free Treatment of Up to ₹5 Lakh Annually
The Ayushman Bharat scheme is a government initiative that provides free medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh at listed hospitals for eligible individuals. Meeting the specified eligibility criteria and adhering to the rules is essential to avail yourself of this benefit. While the government has granted ‘in-principle’ approval for this proposal, official confirmation regarding its full-scale implementation is still awaited.
Impact on the Government’s Financial Burden
Expanding the Ayushman Bharat scheme will increase the financial burden on the government. Currently, the annual expenditure stands at ₹6,000–9,000 crore. With the inclusion of more beneficiaries, the annual cost to the state government is expected to reach approximately ₹15,000 crore, which may necessitate an additional budget allocation.
