PM Gati Shakti: PM GatiShakti is playing an important role in strengthening India’s infrastructure by bringing different modes of transportation under one integrated development plan. The initiative focuses on connecting airports, roads, railways, waterways, ports and mass transit systems to create a more efficient, seamless and well-coordinated transport network across the country.

PM Gati Shakti Plan

With more than 13,000 km of railway projects, over 3,600 km of high-speed corridors and expressways, six airport projects, 185 port and waterways projects, and 31 mass transit projects, the programme highlights India’s growing focus on multimodal connectivity. By coordinating infrastructure planning and development across different sectors, PM GatiShakti aims to improve transportation efficiency, reduce logistical challenges and facilitate the smoother movement of passengers and goods.

185 Port and Waterways Projects to Strengthen India’s Connectivity

Better connectivity can also help businesses access markets more easily, strengthen supply chains, support industrial growth and create new opportunities for investment and employment. The integration of different transport networks is particularly important for improving connectivity between urban centres, industrial hubs, ports, airports and remote regions. It can help reduce delays, improve freight movement and make logistics operations more cost-effective.

Through a coordinated approach to infrastructure development, PM GatiShakti seeks to minimise gaps between transportation systems and ensure that new projects complement existing networks. Overall, the initiative represents a significant step towards building a more connected, efficient and future-ready India, where integrated infrastructure supports economic growth, regional development and improved mobility for people across the country.

Launched on October 13, 2021, the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan brought data from various ministries, states and Union Territories onto a common GIS-based platform. It enables planners to analyse infrastructure, geographical features and economic zones together, supporting data-driven decisions and coordinated project planning. Over the years, it has evolved into a nationwide framework for integrated infrastructure development.
