‘No PUC, No Fuel’ Rule at 500 Petrol Pumps from November 1, Check Details

‘No PUC, No Fuel’ Rule in Delhi: In view of the rising pollution levels in Delhi, the government has announced strict measures. A ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule will come into effect starting November 1st. Under this policy, if a vehicle lacks a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate—or if the certificate has expired—the owner will be denied fuel (petrol or diesel) at petrol pumps. Furthermore, driving a vehicle without a valid PUC certificate will result in a fine (challan).

Additionally, a decision has been made to restrict the entry of vehicles that do not meet BS-VI emission standards into Delhi, effective November 1st. Consequently, it is essential for vehicle owners to ensure their PUC certificates are up to date. Conveniently, vehicle owners can check their PUC status from the comfort of their homes using a mobile phone or computer.

Checking PUC Status via the Parivahan Portal
Checking your PUC status through the Parivahan portal is simple. Follow these steps: First, visit the official government website, parivahan.gov.in. Enter your vehicle’s registration number, followed by the last five digits of the chassis number. Enter the captcha code displayed on the screen and select the option related to PUC details. You will then be able to view your PUC certificate information, including the certificate number, its validity date, and the emission test readings. This allows you to determine whether your vehicle’s PUC is still valid or if a new one is required.

Accessing Information via the mParivahan App
You can also check your vehicle’s PUC status using the mParivahan app on your mobile phone. The app is available for both Android and iPhone users. Simply download the mParivahan app and sign in to access the information. You can either add vehicle details or select a vehicle that you have already linked. Once done, navigate to the PUC option within the vehicle’s profile. This feature allows you to check the validity of your PUC certificate.

How long is a PUC certificate valid?
For a new vehicle, a PUC test is not required for the first year from the date of registration. Thereafter, it becomes mandatory to undergo a pollution test and obtain a certificate. Generally, a PUC certificate for petrol and diesel vehicles is valid for 6 months. However, rules may vary in certain cases; therefore, please verify the expiry date printed on your certificate. To avoid the PUC expiring, set a reminder on your mobile phone for 7 days before the expiry date—this step will help ensure you can renew the certificate on time.

Are you unable to find the PUC details online?
Sometimes, information does not appear on the website immediately after a pollution test is conducted. In such cases, you can try a few simple steps: check the website again after some time, and ensure that the vehicle’s registration number and chassis number are entered correctly. Furthermore, be careful not to confuse the letter ‘O’ with the digit ‘0’. Keep the physical certificate from the testing centre safe. If the record still does not appear, contact the pollution testing centre.

Important points to remember regarding PUC
Use only the official website or the official app to access PUC information. Avoid sharing your vehicle’s personal details on unknown websites or third-party apps. If your vehicle’s PUC is nearing its expiry, do not wait until the last day; get the pollution test done well in advance. If the vehicle fails the test, you may need extra time to get it repaired and undergo a re-test.

You can also keep a photo of your PUC certificate saved on your mobile phone. However, do not consider the image a substitute for the official, valid certificate. When necessary, please present the official record or the details from the actual certificate.
