Mumbai Schools Closed: The havoc caused by the rains in Mumbai shows no signs of abating. Continuous heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging in various areas, with cars on the streets submerged. The monsoon rains have wreaked havoc on the city. Heavy rains and strong winds on Sunday caused significant disruption, including the interruption of air travel; the city has recorded between 200 and 300 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
Schools in Mumbai will remain closed today
The sea has turned turbulent in various parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for heavy rainfall on July 6 across several districts, including Nashik, Palghar, and Thane. Consequently, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that all government and private schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed on July 6.
The decision to keep educational institutions closed has been taken in view of the inclement weather and student safety. The IMD has issued an alert for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds across Mumbai for Monday, July 6. Government and private offices will function as usual.
Navi Mumbai Schools Closed
Observing the severity of the rains, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has announced that all schools will remain closed on Monday. Navi Mumbai Mayor Sujata Patil and NMMC Commissioner Kailash Shinde have appealed to citizens to step out of their homes only if absolutely necessary.
Mumbai Schools Closed Today:
The BMC has clarified that despite the weather warning, there will be no restrictions on regular office operations. The decision to close only educational institutions was made with student safety in mind. Along with announcing the closure, the BMC has urged citizens to stay indoors and follow instructions from the local administration to ensure their safety.
Holiday for all schools in Pune
The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The Pune district administration has declared Monday a holiday for all schools in the district; District Magistrate Jitendra Dudi announced the decision.
Meanwhile, Mumbai University has postponed all examinations scheduled for July 6. A circular issued by the university’s Board of Examinations and Evaluation on Sunday stated that the revised examination schedule would be released soon on the university’s official website.
