Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Menu Updated, Non-Veg Dishes Added – See Full List

Vande Bharat Sleeper: Passengers on the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The food menu on this advanced train, which operates between Howrah and Kamakhya, has been updated. Previously, travelers were unhappy with the strictly vegetarian menu. Taking into account passenger feedback and local tastes, the Railways has now opted to add non-vegetarian food choices alongside the vegetarian ones.

More food options are on the way

After the success of the Vande Bharat Express, Indian Railways introduced the Vande Bharat Sleeper train, which has been getting great reviews from passengers. Now, those on the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, running between Howrah and Kamakhya, will enjoy a wider variety of dining options. The Railways has made a significant update to the train’s menu by incorporating non-vegetarian food selections.

Since the train started operating, passengers have only been offered vegetarian meals, which has been especially challenging for those from states like West Bengal and Assam. Many people in these areas prefer non-vegetarian dishes like fish, eggs, and chicken. After numerous complaints and criticism on social media, this issue has turned into a political topic.

Non-veg options are being added to the menu

Railway officials have stated that, keeping passengers’ comfort and preferences in mind, non-vegetarian options are now being added to the menu. With these new changes, passengers can choose between paneer masala and chicken dishes for their vegetarian meals. The non-vegetarian thali will feature about 70 grams of chicken gravy, along with 50 to 60 grams of boneless chicken, prepared to suit Bengali and Assamese flavors. However, the rest of the menu will stay the same, including jeera corn pulao, paratha, mixed dal, Assamese-style beans, and rasgulla for dessert.

The railway has clarified that passengers will be given the option to choose between vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals at the time of ticket booking. It is worth noting that earlier on February 1, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had also hinted that both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal options would soon be offered on Vande Bharat sleeper trains. The railway believes that this decision will increase passenger satisfaction and enhance the travel experience.
