He became the first Indian player to win the Player of the Match award the most times in the T20 international format. He was chosen as Player of the Match for his outstanding performance against the USA, surpassing Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli in this regard.

Suryakumar Yadav has now surpassed Virat Kohli in the number of Player of the Match awards. In his 105th T20 International match, he received his 17th Player of the Match award. Virat Kohli has received the award 16 times in 125 matches.
Globally, Suryakumar Yadav is only behind Malaysia’s Virandeep Singh (22 times) and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza (19 times). This makes him the third player internationally to have won the Player of the Match award the most times in T20S. Suryakumar Yadav had been in poor form for quite some time.
