New Delhi: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has won a landslide victory in Bangladesh’s general elections. Tarique Rahman is being credited with the BNP’s landslide victory. He returned home after 17 years in exile and received a landslide victory from the people. Preparations are now underway for his swearing-in ceremony.
Tarique Rahman is set to be sworn in as Bangladesh’s new Prime Minister soon. Sources indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may invite Tarique Rahman. It is expected that if an invitation from Bangladesh arrives for the swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend.
If this happens, relations between India and Bangladesh could be strengthened. The BNP may also invite all regional national presidents.
This advice to India
Humayun Kabir, foreign affairs advisor to Tarique Rahman, the incoming Prime Minister of Bangladesh, stated clearly in speaking to PTI that it is time for both countries to change their old perceptions.
During this, he said that India must understand that Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League no longer exist in today’s Bangladesh. Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi spoke with Tariq Rahman on February 13, 2026, immediately after the election results, and congratulated him on his resounding victory.
The conversation was extremely cordial, with PM Modi reiterating India’s support for a democratic and inclusive Bangladesh. PM Modi also invited Tariq Rahman to visit India at his convenience.
