Free Solar Rooftop Yojna: In view of the increasing demand for electricity in the country and the importance of environmental protection, the central government has launched the ‘Free Solar Rooftop Yojana’. The main objective of this scheme is to encourage common citizens to install solar panels on the roofs of their houses. The use of solar energy not only reduces the electricity bill, but it is also a source of clean and renewable energy, which reduces environmental pollution.
Electricity savings and economic benefits
Installing solar panels on the roof of your house under the Free Solar Rooftop Scheme provides many economic benefits. The biggest benefit is that it can reduce your electricity bill by 40% to 50%. The electricity generated from the solar panel meets the daily electricity needs of the house, which requires less power from the power supply company. Apart from this, if excess electricity is generated from your solar panel, you can also earn additional income by selling it to the grid.
Contribution to environmental protection
Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy source. Unlike conventional power generation, solar power generation does not emit any pollutants. Thus, by installing solar panels at your home, you are making a significant contribution to environmental protection. Every person’s contribution is important in dealing with problems like climate change and global warming and this scheme helps in this at the individual level.
Benefit of Government Subsidy
Under the Free Solar Rooftop Scheme, the government is giving attractive subsidy for installing solar panels. Solar panels up to 3 kW get a subsidy of up to 40%, while panels from 3 to 5 kW get a subsidy of up to 20%. For example, if the total cost of installing a 3 kW solar panel is around Rs 1,20,000, you will get a subsidy of Rs 48,000 and you will have to pay only Rs 72,000. Similarly, if the total cost of installing a 5 kW solar panel is around Rs 2,00,000, you will get a subsidy of Rs 40,000 and you will have to pay Rs 1,60,000.
Eligibility and Prerequisites of the Scheme
There are some basic eligibility criteria to avail the Free Solar Rooftop Scheme. Firstly, the applicant must be a permanent resident of India and must be at least 18 years of age. Secondly, the applicant must not have solar panels installed already and must have a valid electricity connection. Apart from these basic conditions, the applicant must have his own private house or roof where solar panels can be installed.
