IRCTC Update – How to Check Available Berths on IRCTC App After Chart Preparation

IRCTC Update: If you travel by train, this news could be very useful for you. It is often observed that passengers are unable to secure a confirmed train ticket. If you are also looking for a confirmed ticket but haven’t been able to get one, there is no need to worry. Frequently, after the train’s reservation chart is prepared, some seats remain vacant. In such cases, you can use IRCTC to find out which coaches have vacant berths.

Indian Railways has shared information on its social media platforms indicating that it is possible to obtain a confirmed ticket even after the reservation chart has been prepared. Vacant berths can arise due to ticket cancellations, passengers failing to board the train, or adjustments in quotas. However, the appearance of a vacant berth does not necessarily mean it is unbooked. In this article, we will look at how you can check for vacant seats using the IRCTC app.

How to check for vacant seats using the IRCTC app?
You can easily check for vacant seats through the IRCTC app by following a few simple steps:
First, open the ‘IRCTC Rail Connect’ app.
Next, navigate to the ‘More Services’ option.
Search for and select the ‘Chart Vacancy’ option.
This will provide you with the option to view information regarding vacant berths after the reservation chart has been prepared.
Enter the train number, date of journey, and class, then click on the ‘Check Vacancy’ option.
You will be able to see the vacant berths available across different coaches and classes.

Can you get a confirmed ticket for a vacant berth?
The ‘Chart Vacancy’ feature is primarily designed to allow users to view the status of vacant berths. If a berth appears vacant, railway rules require you to either book a ticket for it or complete the official allotment process through an authorised railway employee. Simply occupying an empty seat without following these procedures is not permitted.
