A valid ticket is mandatory for train travel in India. Traveling without a ticket can lead to heavy penalties. However, sometimes tickets get lost or torn, causing distress to passengers. If this happens to you, don’t worry! Indian Railways allows passengers to obtain a duplicate ticket.

How to Get a Duplicate Ticket?

  1. Before Starting the Journey:

    • If you haven’t started your journey yet, visit the nearest railway ticket counter.

    • Provide your PNR number and a valid ID proof to get a duplicate ticket.

  2. During the Journey:

    • If you lose your ticket while traveling, contact the TTE (Train Ticket Examiner).

    • They can verify your PNR details and issue a duplicate ticket.

Duplicate Ticket Charges:

  • Sleeper & Second Class: ₹50

  • AC Classes (3-Tier, 2-Tier, 1st Class): ₹100

  • If Ticket is Lost After Chart Preparation: 50% of the total fare

  • If Ticket is Torn: 25% of the fare (only for confirmed tickets)

⚠ Important Notes:

  • Waiting list tickets are not eligible for duplicates.

  • If the original lost ticket is found, you can claim a refund for the duplicate ticket charges before the train’s departure by visiting the railway counter.

Conclusion

Getting a duplicate train ticket is simple but involves extra charges. To avoid inconvenience, always keep your ticket safe and take a photo or screenshot as a backup before traveling.
