Delhi Weather Update: The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8°C on Sunday, which was 1.9 degrees above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Several parts of Delhi experienced early morning rainfall, providing much-needed relief from the intense heatwave that had persisted over the past few days.

The IMD reported that Delhi received 42 mm of rainfall on Sunday morning. Key areas like Safdarjung recorded 33.5 mm, Lodhi Road saw 32 mm, and Pusa received 27.5 mm of rain. Officials noted that the downpour caused power outages in some localities. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning occurred between 2:30 AM and 4:30 AM.

Weather officials stated that wind speeds at Palam Airport reached 56 km/h around 4:30 AM, while visibility dropped from 4,000 meters at 2 AM to 1,500 meters by 3 AM. The city’s minimum temperature settled at 20°C, seven degrees below average, with humidity levels recorded at 43% by 5:30 PM.

  • Safdarjung: Maximum temperature at 35.6°C (3.2°C below normal), minimum at 20°C (7.5°C below normal).

  • Palam: Maximum temperature at 35°C (4.2°C below normal), minimum at 24°C (3.8°C below normal).

Weather Forecast for Monday

The IMD predicts light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds (50-60 km/h) in Delhi until Monday evening. The expected maximum and minimum temperatures are around 37°C and 23°C, respectively.

Air Quality Update

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was 62 at 4 PM on Sunday, falling under the “satisfactory” category. The AQI scale classifies 0-50 as “good,” 51-100 as “satisfactory,” 101-200 as “moderate,” 201-300 as “poor,” 301-400 as “very poor,” and 401-500 as “severe.”
