Dehradun Cloudburst: The 2025 monsoon rains have caused significant devastation in Uttarakhand. There are constant reports of cloudbursts in Uttarakhand. Sometimes the water level of the rivers rises, and sometimes a cloudburst causes havoc. The heavy rains and cloudburst incident in Uttarakhand on Monday night have caused widespread devastation. Due to the torrential rain, the Tamsa River overflowed, causing the famous Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple in Dehradun to be completely submerged.
A priest of the temple said that around 5 am, the water level of the river increased rapidly, and the entire temple complex was submerged in water. Many shops have been swept away in the strong water due to a cloudburst.
There has been heavy damage in the Sahastradhara area due to a cloudburst in the outskirts of Dehradun. River water and debris entered the primary market. Apart from this, road connectivity has been lost due to the washing away of a bridge near Fun Valley on the Dehradun-Haridwar National Highway.

Rescue operation continues
As soon as the news of the disaster was received, SDRF and NDRF teams started relief and rescue operations. The SDRF has so far rescued three people trapped in the river in Rishikesh and evacuated approximately 300-400 residents to safer locations. Students trapped in water at Dev Bhoomi Institute on Dehradun-Vikasnagar Road were also evacuated.

State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on X, ‘I am personally in touch with the local administration. At present, relief and rescue operations are going on, and I pray for the safety of everyone.’
