New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is in the news these days. The biggest reason for him being in the headlines is believed to be the Voter Rights Yatra in Bihar and the attack on the Election Commission and PM Modi. But on the other hand, an old case has now come to the fore.
The order to register an FIR against Rahul Gandhi has been challenged in the High Court. Rahul Gandhi has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court against the order of the MP/MLA court of Varanasi. In fact, the MP/MLA court had accepted the monitoring petition seeking registration of an FIR against him on July 21 for his statement on the Sikh community in America.
Rahul Gandhi has filed a review petition in the High Court against this order. The court of Justice Sameer Jain will hear the entire case in September.
A big statement was given regarding Sikhs.
In September 2024, Rahul Gandhi had allegedly said during a program in America that the atmosphere in India is not good for Sikhs. Can Sikhs wear turbans, keep Kada and go to Gurudwaras? There was a lot of opposition to his statement, calling it provocative and divisive in society.
Then Varanasi resident Nageshwar Mishra tried to register an FIR against Rahul Gandhi’s statement in the Sarnath police station. But when no one got success, he approached the court. The judicial magistrate dismissed the case on 28 November 2024, saying that the matter is related to the speech given in America and is outside his jurisdiction.
