Baal Aadhaar Card: Today, the Aadhaar card is an essential document for everyone in India. From school admissions to banking services, Aadhaar is widely used as a valid proof of identity and address. Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number that enables individuals to access government and private services.
For children below the age of five, the government issues a special version of Aadhaar known as the Baal Aadhaar Card. This card is designed specifically for infants and young children and is linked to their parents’ Aadhaar details.
What Details Are Included in a Baal Aadhaar Card?
The Baal Aadhaar Card contains the child’s name, photograph, date of birth, and gender. Because the child is under 5 years old, biometric data such as fingerprints and iris scans are not collected at this stage.
Instead, the Aadhaar of either parent is linked to the child’s Aadhaar profile, making it easier to verify identity until the child grows older.
Who Can Apply for Baal Aadhaar?
This version of Aadhaar is issued to children under 5 years of age. Parents can apply for Baal Aadhaar at any authorised Aadhaar service centre. In many hospitals, Aadhaar enrolment is available at birth, allowing parents to complete the process early.
How to Apply for Baal Aadhaar Online and Offline?
Parents who wish to apply online can first book an appointment through the official UIDAI website. In the “My Aadhaar” section, parents can select “Book an Appointment” and enter their city and mobile number to verify it with an OTP.
After verification, they can choose a convenient date and time to visit the Aadhaar enrolment centre. For an offline application, parents can see the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre, complete the form, and submit the required documents.
During the process, parents will need to provide their Aadhaar details and biometric verification. Once the enrolment is complete, an acknowledgement slip with an enrolment ID is issued, which can be used to track the application status. The Baal Aadhaar card is usually delivered to the registered address within 60 to 90 days.
Benefits of Baal Aadhaar Card
The Baal Aadhaar Card serves as an essential identity and address proof for children. It helps families access government schemes and subsidies, and is commonly required for school admissions, scholarships, health insurance, and vaccination records.
Mandatory Aadhaar Update After Age 5
Once the child turns 5, the Aadhaar details must be updated. At this stage, the child’s fingerprints and iris scan are recorded. Another biometric and photo update is required between the ages of 5 and 15 to keep Aadhaar information accurate and valid.
