Have you ever thought of a new phone literally flying in to your home? Crazy, right? That is what Amazon is doing in the US! Delivering, for instance, iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones and lots of other cool gadgets at your doorstep in less than an hour!
No long waits for an entire day! Just order from anywhere, and the drone will drop it right down to your doorstep.
So far, it has only seen limited drone deliveries in select cities like Phoenix, Arizona, and College Station, Texas. If you live there, you get that option of drone delivery while shopping on the Amazon app or website.
Well, the way it works is that the drones pick up your order and bring it home. They hover there, about 13 feet in the air (4 meters), scanning the delivery area for obstructions before lowering your package to you with great care. The only catch is that it has to be light, meaning nothing above 5 lbs, which happens to be the sweet spot for phones and miniature gadgets.
Amazon says that the service will cover more than 60,000 products in that category, meaning things like phones and AirPods and smart doorbells and small electronics and whatnot. And I must say, that very much deserves attention: It’s fast, it’s futuristic, and quite frankly, beautiful, as it is.
And how does it cover other countries?
Well, it doesn’t. There is no news so far about Amazon drone deliveries in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore. Hardly anything is known concerning the regulations, which are a mountain of safety hurdles that threaten to stop it or might actually fly in around and deliver parcels.
But it does give quite a lot of weight to a future not that far off when everybody will be gazing at the sky to see drones delivering their Amazon orders.
Until then, let’s only hope that drone delivery strikes into India, and it will then change our shopping experience forever.
