Tecno Pova Curve 5G: If you are looking for a stylish and feature-packed smartphone that is also pocket-friendly, then TECNO’s new POVA Curve 5G can be a perfect choice for you. This phone has grabbed everyone’s attention as soon as it entered the market, and we used it to see whether it really lives up to its claim or not.

Design and Display

The design of TECNO POVA Curve 5G looks very premium. The 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate is heart-warming. Scrolling or gaming both feel smooth. The brightness is also amazing – it goes up to 1300 nits, so the screen is easily visible even in sunlight. Gorilla Glass 5 protection is also available, so there’s no need to be afraid of small drops.

The curved display of the phone gives it a flagship feel. Out of the three colour options – Geek Black, Magic Silver, and Neon Cyan, we used Geek Black, which has a matte finish on the back and reduces the issue of finger smudges. With an IP64 rating, the phone is also protected from light dust and water.

Camera Setup

The rear has a 64MP Sony IMX682 sensor primary camera with f/1.7 aperture. It is accompanied by a 2MP portrait lens. The front has a 13MP selfie shooter that takes decent photos. During the day, the shots are clear and vibrant. The edge detection of the portrait mode is also quite good.

Images can be a little grainy at night, but the night mode improves it to a great extent. Both the rear and front cameras support 4K video recording, which is a rare feature in this price range. Features like dual video, vlog mode are also available.

Performance and UI

This phone has MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 Ultimate processor, which is made on 4nm process. There was no lag while using the phone, gaming was also smooth. BGMI supports up to HDR Ultra settings. Talking about the UI, HiOS 15 is available on top of Android 15. The company has given Ella AI assistant which also supports Hindi and other Indian languages.

HiOS 15 has a lot of AI-based features – AI Call Assistant, AI Document Assistant, AI Wallpaper Generator, and AI Eraser 2.0 like options make the experience even more personal. The UI is clean and more bloatware-free, but some bugs are also visible like Amazon Pay issue.

Battery and Charging

The phone has a big 5500mAh battery, which easily lasts more than a day even in heavy use. It also has 45W fast charging support, which charges up to 50% in half an hour. There is also a bypass charging option which is a bonus for gamers.

Connectivity and Audio

The phone supports 10 5G bands, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and IR blaster. Stereo speakers come with Dolby Atmos which give loud and clear sound. Audio quality was also quite good with earphones. HD streaming is also possible with Widevine L1 support. Signal reception was also top-notch, and call quality also seemed impressive.

Fingerprint and Security

The in-display fingerprint sensor is quite fast, and face unlock also works, but the fingerprint is more secure. There is also an option to customize the unlock animation.

Is this the best budget phone?

The TECNO POVA Curve 5G is a value for money phone at a price tag of Rs 15,999. You get a stylish curved AMOLED screen, a big battery, a smooth UI loaded with AI features, and solid performance. The camera is also quite impressive for the price.

Another OS update and a little software refinement would have been even better, but still this phone is easily recommended in this budget.
